Every year, a new batch of beginners and learners go through the Orientation Programme in B- Schools around this time. The orientation programme at IMI-Kolkata is designed to set a different pace altogether.

The Orientation Programme for PGDM batch 2014- 2016 started on 23 June at IMI-Kolkata. A Six day Orientation Programme is aimed to orient the students to B- School approach and Corporate practices.

The Chief Guest for the occasion, Shri Gautam Ghose, noted film maker, cinematographer and director left the audience spellbound. He took the stage with his usual eloquence and encouraged students to reign in creativity in all aspects of life. Shri Ghose shared with students, anecdotes, real life incidents, work output/ input research by Scandinavian countries to drive home one point –“tales are nothing but finer realities of life”. He mentioned the role of case studies and live examples are nothing but finer realities –“Redefined”. Very correctly he expressed, “Context might change but concept remains the same.

Mr Abhijit Agarwal, Associate Director KPMG, a young and dynamic leader was the Keynote Speaker. He spoke on the concept of, “edge over others”. He urged the students to bring out the best in them by creating the point of differentiation. Students should invent new ways of doing business, new ways of dealing with business proposals for new ways means embracing greater innovation. Innovation is nothing but inner vision.

Director Designate, Dr Arindam Banik, a thorough Academician and Researcher took the students through the journey of an academic legacy called, International Management Institute. The new beginners are on board and the ardent responsibility of the Faculty Team at IMI-Kolkata is to make them industry ready.

Executive Director and Group Company Secretary, Mr Subhasis Mitra graced the occasion and wished the fresh batch all success in the days to come.

Dr Tirthankar Nag, Dean (Academics) focused on the rigour of academics at IMI-Kolkata. An IIM A alumnus himself, Dr Nag reiterated that there are no two ways in IMI-Kolkata for two things, Academics and Discipline.

The whole day long programme was well attended by Students, Parents, Alumni and Industry Guests.

Evenings were lighter with Fusion Music group performance by Soumya Music. The entire team of students, parents, corporates, faculty and staff bonded well over dinner.

A foundation programme covering basic competencies will be conducted from 24 June to 27 June. All the four days would have industry speakers sharing their professional experiences with students and making them realize, “What took you here will not take you there”
